2012 VGFOA Certificate Program Course Scholarships

The VGFOA Executive Board several years ago created the certificate program course scholarships to encourage participation in the VGFOA certification program, especially among members from smaller local governments or from areas of the state where VGFOA participation has been limited.

This year’s certificate course scholarship program offers five individual course scholarships, each valued at $225.  VGFOA Membership is required to apply for the certificate course scholarships.

Certificate course scholarships are valid for up to one year after the award date and winners may choose any VGFOA certificate course offered during that time period.  Any other course costs must be covered by the attendee or employer.

The VGFOA Awards and Membership Committee considers a number of factors when recommending scholarship award candidates, such as the applicant’s professional experience, short-term and long-term career goals, current position within the employer’s organization, previous VGFOA certificate program courses completed, and the population and budget of the applicant’s locality.  Also considered is the locality’s geographic location within Virginia.  Applicants are encouraged to provide full and complete information since competition for these scholarships is usually intense.

The application deadline for the 2012 VGFOA Certificate Program Course Scholarships is Friday, April 6, 2012. 

 Scholarship winners will be announced in May 2012.
