Satellite Downlink Information

Sites

The likeliest places to find acceptable satellite downlink sites, in order of probable availability, are:

  • Community Colleges
  • State Extension Agencies
  • Public College/University Conference Centers
  • Large city and county municipal complexes

Because they regularly use satellite downlinks for group classes and presentations, these providers have both the necessary expertise and the facilities for comfortable group viewings.

Logistics

  • Make the reservation at least two weeks in advance, and double-check one week before the scheduled event.
  • For multiple sites, make sure each one is assigned to a responsible individual who will be attending the event and will be available for resolving last-minute problems.
  • Ask each site to run a test on satellite acquisition several days before the scheduled downlink.

Costs

Most sites such as those listed above will provide facilities at little or no cost. If site costs are more than nominal, solicit assistance from involved third parties: e.g., underwriters should be interested in co-sponsoring a presentation on disclosure requirements or advance refunding procedures.
